A retired judge has doubts about whether Premier Gordon Campbell’s response to the recent upsurge in gang-related shootings in the Lower Mainland will quell organized-crime-related violence in the long term.

Jerry Paradis, who was a provincial court judge for 28 years until he retired in 2003, said that putting more police officers on the ground won’t lessen the danger to ordinary citizens, who are at risk of getting caught in the crossfire.

Marc Emery: Looking for Your Opinion on An Alliance Proposal to the BC Green Party

Today I met with Green Party of BC leader Jane Sterk. British Columbia's Municipal Election Results

On Saturday, November 15th, municipalities across British Columbia held elections. Vancouver Island Compassion Society Director Philippe Lucas was elected to City Council in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, for a three-year term. Brian Taylor, the first leader of the BC Marijuana Party in 2001, was elected Mayor of Grand Forks, BC. Congratulations to these two progressive gentlemen, and we wish them well in the next three years!

Marc Emery for Mayor of Vancouver: "My Manifesto for the City of Vancouver"

I’m frustrated with my campaign to become Mayor of Vancouver. Unless you are Peter Ladner or Gregor Robertson, you do not get any serious opportunities to offer up useful ideas to manage the Corporation of the City of Vancouver. So far I’ve been to a “speed-dating” style candidate meeting in a bar, where you get two minutes to meet different groups and answer their questions, though all that really needs discussion is plans for managing $2,600,000,000 the Corporation of Vancouver will spend in the Mayor’s next term (between 2009 to 2011; the 2008 budget is $850,000,000+).

The BC by-election results are in

British Columbia's Vancouver-Burrard and Vancouver-Fairview ridings were won by New Democratic Party candidates Spencer Herbert (6,516 votes, 50.11%) and Jenn McGinn (5,487 votes, 46.66%) respectively. Voter turnout was very low, with only 20-26% bothering to cast a ballot. Marc Emery received 356 votes (2.73%), and 155 votes (1.32%) were cast for Jodie Emery.

Marc Emery on his candidacy for Mayor of Vancouver (November 15th election)

A survey I filled out is supposed to show up on the Vancouver sun website soon. Here are some of my answers.

My major vision for Vancouver is the unilateral Repeal of Prohibition. Repealing prohibition and organizing a safe, taxed, regulated and transparent drug distribution structure under the aegis of the City of Vancouver will immediately impact on Crime Gang activity, homelessness, property crime directed at tourist vehicles and local homes, prostitution, and street disorder and decay in the downtown east side.
